#AltElxn 2025 is a coordinated national project by the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC), bringing together over 100 radio stations and local journalists from across the country.
Our goal is to offer independent, community-based election coverage that highlights national issues through a local lens. With a focus on authentic voices and community impact, the series explores the stories, candidates, and concerns shaping the upcoming federal election.
Our first episode zooms in on one of Canada’s most unique ridings: Saanich–Gulf Islands. Known as the “Greenest Riding in Canada,” this area has been shaped by both federal and provincial Green Party leadership.
Hosted by Bill Collins and Peter Wainwright, the show covers key election themes, introduces candidates, and offers perspectives from residents and Indigenous leaders.
Produced By: Bill Collins and the Radio Sidney Team
Act 1: BC election overview and regional context
Act 2: Voices from the street – local concerns from real residents
